Ted Hille

Research & Engineering

“In theory, there is no difference between practice and theory. In practice, there is.”

Background

Ted started his engineering career in product development in the commercial industry. Since then, he has progressed from engineer to leading multiple teams of engineers. After 20+ years of experience in software engineering, Ted joined Galois in 2019.

As a former professional musician, Ted’s role as project lead to a team of engineers is like a conductor to an orchestra: it is the art of simultaneously guiding individual performers with unique skills to create something meaningful out of nothing. Like a conductor creates a symphony, Ted believes in grounding theory to apply to practical solutions.

As both a musician and project lead, he steers favorable results by trusting his intuition and being tuned into the team. At Galois, Ted drives success by setting the tempo and tone, ensuring that the project’s vision is accurately related to all performers, coordinating the execution of the project, maintaining dialogue within the team, and listening critically to performers to shape the outcome appropriately.

In Ted’s spare time, he still loves to play his saxophone or guitar, and hike around the Pacific Northwest.
