About This Role:

Galois is hiring a Systems Programming Engineer/Researcher to join our team! This role will focus on advancing the state of the art for safe application execution through hardware-assisted and operating system-assisted technology, by developing compiler toolchains and runtime systems, developing infrastructure to capture and analyze runtime measures of system effectiveness, and applying software engineering expertise to developing and maintaining these capabilities across targeted platforms.

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent. MS or PhD in CS or a related field is desirable but optional.
  • Required Technical Expertise:
    • Must have hands-on experience developing software at the systems level.
    • Must have deep working knowledge of the Linux kernel, familiar with many of the abstractions, and have the ability to build and use custom kernels.
    • Must have hands-on experience making experimental changes to the Linux kernel to advance project goals, and ability to get changes accepted upstream when generally applicable.
    • Experience in all aspects of software engineering practices.
  • Desired but not Required Technical Expertise:
    • Experience with embedded systems and emulation environments (e.g., QEMU), cross-compiling applications and tooling, and running applications in a targeted embedded environment.
    • Direct experience in developing high assurance systems and/or security products.
    • Some familiarity or interest in applied use of formal methods, such as model checking, program analysis, and formal semantics of application behavior. This is typically the basis of our projects and motivates our technical approach.
    • Familiarity with the functional programming paradigm.
  • Required General Skills:
    • Must work well with customers, including building rapport, identifying needs, and communicating with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
    • Must be highly motivated and able to self-manage deadlines and quality goals
    • Must have impeccable attention to detail and create clean, well-written and documented code.
