Content Creator / Marketing Coordinator

Responsibilities:

Galois is hiring a Content Creator/Marketing Coordinator in Portland, OR. We’re looking for a new Galwegian who loves writing, has a passion for learning and talking to people, and who is comfortable wearing multiple hats. Our ideal candidate enjoys taking challenging technical topics and writing stories about them.

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Create content and stay connected within a dynamic organization
  • Convey enthusiasm and excitement about the R&D at Galois to a broader audience

Results:

  • Create content and manage content pipeline: 
    • Track events and communication-worthy milestones in an editorial calendar. 
    • Collaborate with computer science researchers through interviews to write and publish compelling content about technical papers, projects, events, or general news. 
    • Interface with PR firm to track and produce PR content such as externally placed articles.
  • Create content about projects on website: 
    • Create project announcements and pages and keep project pages up to date. 
    • Update website content: research areas, team pages, projects, etc. 
    • Plan and execute changes and fixes as needed. 
  • Maintain social media
    • Internalize a voice that is representative of Galois.
    • Keep social media up to date.
  • Develop content for event posters and presentations:  
    • Support researchers and engineers in creating engaging content for talks and conferences.
  • Create culture-related content
  • Maintain videos
    • Upload occasional videos to YouTube and maintain YouTube channel.
  • Interface with external communications partners: 
    • Partners include: PR firm, designers, video producers.
  • Support special projects:
    • Support activities such as spin-offs with communications-related work.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Preferred education and experience:
    • Minimum education of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
    • Minimum experience of two years in a similar role.
  • Background in communications and writing: 
    • Excellent writing skills and the ability to track internal “stories” and publish them.
  • Thriving in a dynamic environment: 
    • Ability and desire to actively collaborate with people across the organization.
  • Good project management skills: 
    • Ability to meet deadlines while juggling a number of priorities and keeping the high level vision in sight.
  • Curiosity regarding computer science: 
    • Interest and curiosity on the topic of computer science, cybersecurity, and experience with writing about advanced tech.
  • Genuine interpersonal skills: 
    • Ability to effortlessly build relationships and keep contact with computer scientists and researchers at Galois.
  • Preferred visual design skills
    • Ability to work with contractors and internal designers to complement content with stellar design choices.  
    • Ideally, familiarity with content layout, diagrams from abstract content, design elements to support content.
