abstract:
This talk is an introduction to the MILS (Multiple Independent Layers of Security) architecture, motivated by the challenge of enforcing various kinds of security policies. I’ll describe the goals of policy enforcement, traditional means of implementing security enforcement mechanisms, and the emerging MILS architecture for enforcing policies with high assurance.

bio:
Dylan McNamee is senior technical staff at Galois and leads the Assured Platforms and Systems program area. Dylan received his MS and PhD in Computer Science from University of Washington, and his BA from UC Berkeley. He was an assistant professor at the Oregon Graduate Institute before leaving academia to co-found two startups. He has been at Galois since 2004.
